The inactive water feature is a water feature that conjures up the idea of water, rather than actually being water, such as a picture, sculpture or work area. Inactive water features are very different than an active water feature. They can activate the water star, but are not nearly as powerful or supportive to wealth generation or opportunities.
It seems that there is no end to how many inactive water features that can be in any given room of your household. A good rule of thumb, though is not to put more than five (excluding feng shui remedies and celestial imagery) to activate the positive energy resonances. These are where the “good stars fall”, the 8 star, the 3 star for this period, the 6 star, the 9 star and the 1 star. Do NOT put any kind of water feature in a sector of your household or room that the water star is 2, 5, 4 or 7, unless there is a specific goal that you wish to attain such as, educational and or literary aspiration with the 4 star or as a remedy for the other stars.
So, what are these inactive water features?
The first one is the painting. This could be of a river, ocean or lake. The key to placement is to make sure that the image looks as if the flow is coming into your home. This is very tricky and you should spend time looking very carefully at the painting and where it is going to be placed. You don’t want your wealth or aspirations to be going away from your household, but rather you want them to be coming into your household. So, take your time and enjoy searching for the perfect painting.
Remedy water paintings can be yin energy, but for the most part stay away from yin water paintings, unless it is to be used as a remedy. Yin water paintings are those of swamps, dirty stagnant water or those with dead or dormant trees around a water feature such as a river, lake or ocean.

The second type of inactive water feature is the sculpture. This could be money frogs, a rhinoceros or even a fish. It also could be a feng shui remedy using real water, that is not flowing or does not support life. Examples might be an anrenshui or an urn of salt water.
Place your sculpture so that it is looking in, but invites a guest or wealth as a gracious host would. Remember any sculpture of a creature of the water is an inactive water feature. Try always to pick a sculpture that is positive in nature to bring good opportunities to you. Negative depictions will bring negative energy into your home. So, even if you think it’s “Cool”, you may want to rethink bringing it into your home.
The third type of inactive water feature is a “Dry” work area that is usually hooked to water, such as a “Dry” bar. If you choose to have a “Dry ” bar in your living room, dinning or family room, then make sure that it is fully stocked. Empty or near empty bars, speak to a lack of resources and can bring in a yin quality. So, if it becomes empty, then use it for something else or get rid of it.
The wonderful thing about inactive water features are that they need very little care. Dusting is much easier than, say, cleaning an aquarium. So, if you are on the go these inactive water features may be the right choice for your household.
