Feng Shui Color Symbolism: What shade of blue are you?

Feng Shui Color Symbolism: Blue is one the the most favorite colors in the World, but it is a tricky color for feng shui! In Western culture blue usually represents water or the sky. In feng shui it also can represent water or the sky. So, which shade of blue is supportive to you?

Cyan, a blue that is warm, is not a representation to fire, rather it is a metal blue. Supportive to the elements of water and metal this blue is special.

Mid to Navy blues are supportive to water and is as close to black as one can get when going for the element of water. But, be careful there are shades within this generality that can hold the energy resonance of fire, earth, metal or wood. Any blue that looks more like the night sky than the deep sea will resonate more with fire than with water. Always side with water if there is any question. Water is an element that destroys fire in feng shui.

Light to mid blues usually represent the element of fire rather than water, but again be cautious there are shades of this blue that may represent that of metal, wood, water and earth.

Blue greens are wood energy. The more green, the more likely it is wood, however turquoise is an earth blue as is azure blue.

See blue is tricky and is so often feared in feng shui design , because it can cause the wrong reaction to a remedy, if you have it wrong.

Remember that a shade of blue from light to dark will resonate with one of the five elements of feng shui. Always consider the shade with great respect. Do NOT judge the shade of blue in haste. Ask yourself does this resonate in a reflective nature. If this shade of blue is reflective, you can be sure that it resonates metal. If the shade is deep and rich with a flow of liquidity about it, you can be sure it resonates with the element of water. If the shade of blue has inclusions and refractions, then you can be sure the shade of blue resonates earth. If the shade of blue is light, airy or twinkles, it is of the element fire.

Cyan is a metal blue, but add some inclusion of brown and it becomes turquoise which is earth. Take away it’s rich deep iridescent qualities and it becomes fire. Add more green to it and it becomes blue green algae which is wood. Darken it and it becomes water. Try this with any shade of blue and you’ll see that blue can easily be used without any fear of making a wrong choice.

Blue is a color that can resonate as any element. The shade of blue for your own personal kua or energy signature is the shade of blue for you! Use red wisely

Whether it is crimson, burnt, maroon or blood, red in feng shui represents fire. It is supportive of the kua or energy resonance of 9. Fire supports earth, so red is a good supportive color of not only the kua of 9, but also 2, 5 and 8. Fire exhausts wood. So, Red is not a good color for those with a kua or energy resonance of 3 or 4. Fire destroys metal energy and thus the power of the kuas of 6 and 7 are negated by red.

Feng Shui Color Symbolism: Yellow is the color of period eight

Yellow diamonds will hold the most power for a precious gem. Yellow citrine, amber, topaz will hold the most power for simi-precious stones. So, when picking out jewelry choose something yellow. The brighter the yellow gem the more auspicious it is.

Why? Because not only is period eight’s color yellow it is ruled by the element of Earth.

Stone, glass, tile, brick and ceramic cladding are the most powerful in wealth generation for your home during this period. Try for a light earthy yellow. Wear yellow silk, satin, twill, duff, cotton. The more earthy, the better. You’ll look radiant and it will attract better opportunity. Complement it with chocolate, tan, or beige if your kua is of an Earth element. If your personal kua is of fire, then reds, pinks, purples and oranges. If it’s wood then greens and black. If it is metal, silver, gold, copper, bronze and don’t forget white. If it’s water then stay away from yellow altogether. Apartment Design For Apartment Living: The period your apartment building was built is imperative to flying star feng shui

Apartment Design For Apartment Living: If you have decided that your apartment is going to be long term, you should consider using the flying star school of feng shui. In the previous article, we talked about facing direction, in this article I want to focus on the period time continuum of your apartment.

If you are in a single floor apartment, such as a duplex or triplex, or on the top floor of a multi-story apartment building, knowing when the sub-roof was last replaced is paramount. The reason the sub-roof is so important is because starting in period 3 roofing technology changed. Instead of slats with open gaps for a sub-roof construction, Western architecture went to using plywood or chip board sheets. This made for a strong and less expensive roof, but it also changed some rules about roofs in traditional flying star, because the flying star school changes periods when the roof is replaced, that is if the roof was replaced in a different period. With this different system of roofing, the replacement of shingle or tiles no longer opens the structure to the stars, thus you need to know when the sub-roof of most Western buildings were replaced, not the roofing that lays on top.

Second the period of most Western multi-story buildings have a similar obstacle to period changes. The top floor of a multi-story structure will be based on the date of replacement of the sub-roof. The floors below will, unless opened up to the stars, remain the same period that the modern structure was built. For the floors below the top floor to be opened to the stars there would have to be a major structural remodeling, fire, etc. for a period change to take place. So, knowing the history of your building is imperative to “Flying the Stars”.

Most multi-story apartment buildings in America, will not have had major restructuring, so if your apartment isn’t on the top floor then you can use the period that the building was constructed. Of course if your apartment is on the top floor you’ll need to know when the sub-roof was last replaced.

From February of 2004 to February of 2024 is the period 8, which is the current period. So, if your apartment building was constructed after 2004 you’ll use the period 8 chart based on the facing direction of your apartment building. But , if your building was built previous to 2004 you will need to look up the period and then get the pertinent period chart for your apartment. As you know, we use apartment to refer to any condo, pud unit, triplex, duplex, etc.

Once you have the period that your apartment building or apartment has “trapped the stars from”, then all you need is the facing direction to get the period chart for your apartment. Next you’ll have to figure where the sectors fall within your apartment, that’s for next time.

There are 24 Facing Direction

Apartment Design For Apartment Living: Apartments can be tricky! Since they are a fraction of a building and not the whole building, like a single family resident, you’ll have to figure the facing direction of your apartment based on the apartment building itself.

There are 24 facing direction in feng shui. Four cardinal direction which are South, North, East and West and four cross directions which are Northwest, Northeast, Southeast and Southwest. Each of these directions have three segments making up 24 different possibilities. Each one of these segments has there own facing direction period chart. This is a very important piece of “Flying Star Feng Shui”. Accuracy in the facing direction is imperative.   I always suggest using a Global Positioning System or GPS compass set to true North for determining facing direction.

The front of your apartment building can also be a little tricky to determine sometimes.  Sometimes it is very obvious where the front of your apartment buildings is.  But here are some rules for determining the front of your building:

1. The side of the building that faces a natural lake, river or ocean will always be the facing direction of your building.  In this case, the street side or any man made environment would take a lesser role.
2. The side of the building that has the most natural open view.
3. Natural landmarks such as the ocean, river, lake or mountains, will always be more powerful than man made landmarks, such as roads, parking lots and alleys.
4. The side of your building that is on the busiest street with the most traffic, a man made river.
5. The obvious main entrance to your building, if it has one.

Once you’ve determined the side of your building that is the front, then stand with your back parallel to the front of your building and write down the GPS degrees relative to True north.  That is your facing direction.  Now all you have to do is find the correlating degree value on the facing direction chart.  That will determine which facing direction chart you should use for the period that your building was built.

Flying Star Feng Shui is a much more accurate school of feng shui and facing direction is a key part in laying out your apartment based in the school.  My next post will discuss the period chart which is a second key to Flying Star Feng Shui.

Apartment Design For Apartment Living: Top 5 tips to feng shui your bedroom

Apartment Design For Apartment Living: Your apartment is an expression of the head of household.  If you are the head of household, then the public spaces as well as your master bedroom is an expression of you.  The bedroom is a personal space.  If your are married then it is an expression of your marriage and should be in support of your head household.

But what of your children and their personal space within your apartment?  What of your spouse?

If you have children, their bedroom is their space.  It should be supportive to their personal kua.  If your spouse needs personal space any bedroom can be converted into an auxiliary bedroom or office in support of their personal kua.

Most apartment dwellers have limited space and rooms.  So, the creativity to feng shui your bedroom can be quite a challenge!  For instance what if you have two children sharing a bedroom?  How do you support each child in that one room?

Here are the top 5 feng shui tips for the bedroom to make this challenge less daunting:

1. Place their beds so that their head is pointing in their sheng chi (wealth), fu wei (personal growth), tien yi (health) or nien yen (romance) direction,  This gives you four different directional options time the number of children sharing the room.
   
2. Use supportive colors for their personal kua in their bed linens.
3. Use images to support their personal kua and place them so that when they are sleeping these images can be seen by them,  rather than painting the entire room or trying to mix colors that support both children
4. Paint the room a neutral color to both their personal kua, this maybe any color.  Remember, it isn’t “neutral”, but neutral to both of the children’s kuas.
5. Never put a television, computer, stereo or images of animals in the room.  Use geometric shapes and positive natural scenes and images of success that support their personal kua.

Televisions, radios, stereos, computers and images of wild creature are not conducive to rest.  These items should be placed in public areas of your apartment.  The bedroom is a place of rest and relaxation. It’s main purpose in feng shui terms is to allow the mind to rest and defragment the days events, so that goals can be achieved and energy levels and power can be rejuvenated.  Even if your children whine about not having electronic toys in their room, it’s better to have them use these devices in public areas of your apartment than to have them disturb the natural rejuvenation process of sleep.
